Loose Ends - new beginnings

Story ID
Swamp Thing - #20.1
Eight faces, ghost-like, surround TST as he pushes apart the stone pillars of a doorway and sets them all teetering, like blinded Sampson bringing down a temple. TST uses his fists, but vines entwine each pillar, and he is a GreenMan; those vines are his. The red eyes are hidden/closed/blinded. Blind strength?

The ghost faces are distinct, and I suppose we'll be meeting them.
  1. a man, square glasses, curving pencil of a mustache. He's in the lower left corner, looking up, caught in the curve of TST's waist and angry arm.
  2. a woman, pensive and prettty, heart shape halo of hair. She's looking over TST's shoulder. A conscience?
  3. another woman (probably), older, serious, in the upper left corner
  4. a screamer, mismatched eyes, ghoul gaping mouth
  5. a man, heavy featured, v-wings of eyebrows, looks like Kos (Klingon from ST-TOS)
  6. another man, 3/4 profile, another mustache. Worried.
  7. dark-hair woman, lower right corner, serious
  8. androgynous face, light hair, looking up, close to face #7

Six more faces, mouths agape and lower jaws missing, are carved into the pillars. Those faces are abstract, as if grown in the bark, disturbing, wide-eyed and staring.. They eat the names of those who create this saga. This would not be the first work to devouring its own creators.

  • Artwork - colors: orange and green, entire page is a doorway. The jambs are each three blocks, crumbling down, wrapped with vines (leaves are vaguely like a grape). The lintel is still horizontal, not bothered by the loss of support. It has decorative blocks on the ends. Stones are orange-color. Each of the eight blocks is carved with an abstract face (scary looking). The six blocks in the jambs have credits written in. Inside the doorway is TST, looking Incredible Hulk-like, smashing the jambs. Eight ghostly faces surround him.
  • Business - not much, the story is starting. The page number is black numeral on white quarter circle, tucked into the lower right hand corner as part of the door jamb.
  • Lettering - Swamp Thing title is yellow with black cracks, squared off shapes, centered in the lintel. Title of this issue is white, curvy and all caps, resting on the threshold stone. Credits are black printing, sort of a casual feel.

Hadn't realized how much goes into the graphics of a graphic novel: inks, pencils, colorist, lettering:  four people v. one writer.

And an editor, who also happens to be one of the creators.  Wonder how long he'll stay with the project.

Tomorrow: the story begins!
