A Rude Awakening
A two-page spread (pp 6 and 7), introducing Lizabeth (the Tremayne woman) and Dennis (last name still unknown, perhaps Barclay?). They wake in a crashed car then start to walk down the road. Something happened between them the night before (probably sex) and though he's talking about a future together (now that they've "got each other"), she's not interested: "We can't build a future around that." He gets irked and starts the long walk home without her. She hurries after him, hoping to explain.
And the helicopters start to arrive...
Some references that suggest vampires or werewolves (more likely since they're walking in daylight)
- "she's used to taking her sunlight a little more diluted"
- Dennis wants to "drive out some of the shadows that have gotten into our lives"
- She points out "All we have in common is the horror in our lives"
- She's concerned they'd "be ripping each others' throats out within a month."
Layout is four rows, panels cover width of page on rows 2,3,4. Most of wide shots with lots of trees and showing them on the road.
But the first row has two panels on each page, with closeups of their faces. The top of the row is outlined as a semicircle across two pages. There's an eagle is in each corner, a matched pair, like the one on the globe from the general's office on the page before.
Their world is getting smaller.
